Over the last three decades, Will Smith has proven there is little he can’t do well. First launching his career in the late 1980s as a rapper named The Fresh Prince, Smith earned modest success in the music industry before he was invited to star in his own television series, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, from 1990 to 1996. After the show, he made his way to the silver screen in Six Degrees of Separation (1993), Bad Boys (1995), and Independence Day (1996), the latter of which became the second highest-grossing film in history at the time and made Smith a box office star. From there, he was unstoppable as he joined Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black (1997) and Gene Hackman in Enemy of the State (1998).
Smith’s career on the silver screen flourished as he gave an award-winning performance in Ali (2001) and followed up with hits like Men in Black II (2002), Bad Boys II (2003), The Pursuit of Happyness (2006), I Am Legend (2007), and Men in Black 3 (2012). Most recently, he starred in Suicide Squad (2016), Collateral Beauty (2016), Bright (2017), and Aladdin (2019), which marked Smith’s highest-grossing film after earning $1 billion at box offices worldwide. Since then, he starred in Gemini Man (2019) and teamed up with Martin Lawrence a third time for Bad Boys for Life (2020).
Today, the 51-year-old Smith is one of the biggest draws to the box office and is the only actor to have eight consecutive films gross over $100 million in the domestic box office and 11 consecutive films gross over $150 million internationally. That’s why he’s ranked as the most bankable actor in the world with his films grossing over $7.5 billion at the global box office in 2016. This success has translated into extravagant wealth for Smith, who’s worth over $350 million. So, how does he spend his fortune? Smith enjoys lavishing his family—actress Jada Pinkett Smith and their three children—in addition to splurging on luxury cars like his favorite Maybach 57 S!
Maybach 57 S Specs
The Maybach 57 was one of the first models produced by Maybach under their new manufacturer—DaimlerChrysler, now known as Daimler AG. Inspired by the Benz Maybach concept car that debuted at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show, the Maybach 57 made its debut in 2002 and was produced until 2012 as a four-door ultra-luxury sedan. While offering the utmost in luxury, the Maybach boasted a lot of power with a 5.5-liter Twin turbocharged V12 engine or a 6.0-liter Twin turbocharged V12 engine with a five-speed automatic transmission that pushed the car to a top speed of 171 miles per hour. How’s that for power and performance?
The Maybach 57 S made its debut at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show with the S standing for “special.” The car certainly didn’t disappoint and featured a 6.0-liter V12 engine with a power output of 603 horsepower and 738 pound-feet torque. This allowed the car to sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under five seconds! The 57 S and all other Maybach models offered high performance as well as a long list of standard features including a navigation system with voice recognition, a four-zone climate control air conditioner, power rear sunshade, rear-seat DVD entertainment system, front and rear seat massage, a 21-speaker BOSE premium sound system, power tilt/telescopic heated wood and leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless start, heated and cooled front and rear seats, heated cupholders, and a review camera.
With such power and a long list of features comes a hefty price tag with the Maybach 57 priced at $366,934 while the 57 S was priced at $417,402. The Maybach 62 is priced at $431,055, the 62 S at $492,602, and the Maybach Landaulet at $1.35 million. With these sky-high prices and dropping sales from 2004 to 2010, it came as little surprise that Daimler AG ceased production of the Maybach line in 2012.
Before production ended, Smith spent over $400,000 on a custom Maybach 57 S to drive around town with his wife, actress Jada Pinkett Smith. His custom luxury car boasts a 6-liter V12 engine and the power to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in under five seconds. Smith opted for the utmost in luxury with a black exterior and all the bells and whistles available including the BOSE sound system and state-of-the-art navigation system. As one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors, he opted for bulletproof windows and high-end leather seats with the interior finished in leather and wood grain. Talk about driving around in style!
