George Clooney got his start as an actor on television in the late 1970s before skyrocketing to fame two decades later when he was cast as Dr. Doug Ross on the hit medical drama, ER (1994-1999). Earning two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for his work on the show, he made his way to the silver screen where he proved his talents as a dramatic actor in From Dusk till Dawn (1996), Out of Sight (1998), and Three Kings (1999).

By the new millennium, Clooney gained even more fame when he starred in Ocean’s Eleven (2001), reprising his role in the film’s sequels. He made his directorial debut in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2002) and has been unstoppable ever since with projects like Good Night and Good Luck (2005), Syriana (2005), Michael Clayton (2007), The Ides of March (2011), and Argo (2013). His most recent credits include The Midnight Sky (TBA).

Outside of acting, Clooney is also known as one of the most influential people in the world thanks to his political and economic activism. He broke millions of hearts in 2014 when he married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin and has since added “father” to his long list of roles with the birth of twins Ella and Alexander in 2017. For Clooney, fatherhood is just icing on the cake to an already beautiful and successful life.

1958 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible Specs

With a net worth of $500 million, it’s no surprise that Clooney loves motorcycles and luxury cars. But fans did a double-take in 2015 when Clooney was spotted cruising around town with a pal in his father’s cherry red 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. What’s the story behind the car?

Originally purchased by Clooney’s father, the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was a style icon of the time thanks to its trendy appearance featuring a chrome finished exterior and double headlamps. The white panels offset the red paint with the chrome rails on the trunk and the white-walled tires giving the Corvette a distinctive look. To top it off, Chevrolet added a manually operated material roof. Automatic convertible roofs were not yet a thing!

The 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible was considered a true sports car that offered loads of power in one of its four versions. The V8 engine was the world’s first mass-built engine offering high levels of power for the Corvette’s size. Engine options included a 230-horsepower, 245-horsepower, 250-horsepower, or a 290-horsepower with Ramjet Fuel Injection. The 290-horsepower engine offered exceptional speeds with a special camshaft and a high-speed valve system with special valves and mechanical valve lifters that easily pushed the engine to a top speed of 116 miles per hour.

The exterior was a glass-fiber reinforced plastic body with sculpted side panels and a polished acrylic lacquer finish. Wraparound front and rear bumpers were mounted to the frame with the choice of a manual fabric folding top or a removable plastic hardtop. The interior included vinyl trimmed bucket seats, key lock, and crank-operated windows. Other interior options included an instrument panel, carpeted floor, competition-type steering wheel, cigarette lighters, rear view mirrors, dual electric windshield wipers, and an electric clock.

Custom options for the Corvette were also available in 1958. New owners could opt from four engines and transmissions in addition to choosing between a hard or soft top, power windows, and an interior heater. Other options included white sidewall tires, heavy-duty brakes, and a suspension package.

Clooney’s 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

Clooney’s father, Nick, is still living at 86 years old and happily gave the 1958 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible to his son to restore. Clooney had the convertible completely restored and added one upgrade—high-end leather seats to the iconic car. Today, the Corvette is one of Clooney’s favorite cars to drive around town since it brings back fond memories of his childhood when his father worked as a broadcast journalist and television host.

Clooney was last spotted driving the Corvette in 2015 when he and pal drove around Los Angeles after eating at Kazu Sushi in Studio City. Clooney is known for his love of cars and also owns a Lexus, a black Porsche Carrera convertible, an electric Tango 600, and many motorcycles. The Tango 600 set the Oceans star back around $110,000 but is certainly paying for itself since it’s powered by electricity and offers a top speed of 150 miles per hour. Clooney also owns a Tesla Signature 100 Roadster, which has a price tag of $100,000. With only 100 models made, Clooney is certainly riding in style.
